Has anyone really achieved a fully self-sufficient urban garden, or is it just a myth perpetuated by Pinterest and Instagram?
I’ve been a part of this forum for quite some time, and I’ve seen countless threads and posts about urban gardening tips and tricks. Yet, I can’t shake off the feeling that a truly self-sufficient garden in an urban setting might be more of a pipe dream than a reality. Let’s face it, those of us in dense cities have to contend with limited space, air pollution, inconsistent light, and varying municipal regulations.
I’m genuinely curious: Are there any long-term members who can share their successes or failures in pursuing urban self-sufficiency? What pragmatic strategies did you use? Did it involve a combination of vertical gardens, aquaponics, or maybe even community gardening? And what about the economic aspect - did you actually save money, or did the expenses outweigh the benefits?
I’m not looking for perfect Instagram stories; I’m seeking realistic experiences that reflect both the challenges and achievements. Can a city-dweller truly be self-sufficient just with their urban garden? Or is it always necessary to rely on external resources to supplement those efforts?
Looking forward to the discussion.
