I checked the beds yesterday morning after those 90-degree days. The lettuce was still perking up fine even though I only watered once last week. A couple weeks ago I put down a thick layer of wood chips around everything to try holding in the little rain we get. It’s working better than I expected on the greens, but the squash leaves are curling by midday anyway. Could the wood chips be trapping extra heat right around the squash roots when the afternoons stay this hot?
