My compost pile finally started breaking down properly after I followed that one detailed eco living resource list. I picked a couple of the apartment-friendly methods from it and swapped in some shredded cardboard for the browns layer.

How do you balance your greens and browns in a small space setup?

Shredded cardboard helps pull moisture from the greens without taking up much room. Layer roughly two parts brown material to one part green by volume so the mix stays loose and breaks down evenly in a bin or bucket. That keeps odors down in an apartment setup.

Tried the two to one brown to green but the small bin still compacted too fast and stayed damp in spots.
