How to stop zero waste garbage from smelling in a small space?

How do you stop zero waste garbage from getting smelly in a small space?

I tried sorting everything into a single small bin with just paper liners, but after a couple days the bottom always turns damp and the whole thing smells off even with the lid on. Not sure if the liners are the wrong kind or if something else needs to change.

Draining the wettest scraps over the sink before they go in the bin made the difference once I started doing it every time. The paper stays drier longer and the whole thing doesn’t turn that sour smell so fast even in a tight spot.

Tried draining the wet stuff first like greenerdays said but the liner still went damp pretty quick and the smell came back after two days anyway. Not sure what else to tweak.
