Cloth rags push oil around - will linen absorb better?

Tried swapping in cloth napkins and rags for most kitchen wipes to cut paper use and costs, and it handles dry spills fine, but anything with oil just pushes around without soaking up.

The weave on the cotton ones I grabbed seems too tight for that, and I’m not sure if a looser linen scrap would fix it without extra washing steps.

Oil’s always the holdup with tighter cottons, just like you’re seeing. A looser linen scrap should pull it up better instead of smearing. Still, a quick hot rinse before tossing in the wash usually helps keep things from building up over time.

Tried the linen scraps on some oil and they soaked it up without smearing like the cotton did. Still seems to need the hot rinse after a few uses to stay effective.
