Why are my cloth produce bags tearing at the seams?

My cloth produce bags tore along the seams after two grocery trips.
Used organic cotton at 200 thread count, double-stitched the edges with cotton thread, but the weight of potatoes and onions pulled the weave apart right at the fold lines. Reinforced one with a 3 mm zigzag on the machine and it still separated after the next load.

The light 200 thread count just doesn’t have enough body for root veggies like that. A medium-weight linen or canvas from natural fibers carries the load without the weave pulling apart at the folds.

Linen’s longer fibers should stop the weave from separating under weight like the cotton did.

Haven’t tried linen or canvas yet, the reinforced cotton still split at the folds with the potatoes. Might be the thread count or the fabric weight that’s the real issue.
